We are thrilled to announce a brand new upcoming educational series this spring, where we're reviving the tradition of learning in the schoolhouse. Partnering with Friends of Holly Hill Farm, we invite you to join us for an enriching experience focused on the fundamentals of sustainable and environmentally responsible farming and growing. Explore various sustainable farming practices including seed-saving, composting, seed-starting, companion planting, and mastering the art of growing your own salad and summer crops. Each session promises hands-on learning and valuable insights to combat climate change empower you in your journey towards sustainable living.

This six-week program will be held on selected nights, offering limited spots to ensure personalized attention and a conducive learning environment. Choose to purchase the full package and secure your spot for all six classes, or opt for individual sessions based on your interests.

ALL CLASSES 6-8pm in the Scituate Schoolhouse. ***Signing up for the six-part series will take you through the spring growing season and start off a year of organic and sustainable growing! **Any purchase of class will add you to the Friends of Holly Hill Email subscription. No refunds. **

  • February 29 - Seed Saving: Attendees will learn about easy-to-save organic seeds, peruse seed catalogs, do some hands- on seed saving, and discuss crops that are ready to grow this spring! Participants will leave with a variety of seeds to plant at home!

  • March 13 - Compost: Come learn how to make compost, from start to finish. And, we’ll share the ways our farmers use agroecological practices to care for the fields and ways to apply those strategies at home. Participants will take home sifted compost to help their home garden and growing space.

  • March 27 - Seed Starting: As spring is underway, it is a great time to start sowing seeds. We will start some seeds to take home in trays and discuss what can be sown directly into the soil.

  • April 10 - Companion Plants: We’ll share what crops grow well together and explore the native three sisters gardening practice too. Together we’ll explore a variety of ways to co-plant, and get the most out of your growing space.

  • April 24 - Grow a Salad: On this night, we will explore the seeds needed to grow a salad of one’s own, and then plant a salad to take home! We will also discuss ways to grow salads and greens all year-round, and we will eat a salad together too!

  • May 8 - Summer Crops: We’ll share sustainable gardening tips for the best soil mix, natural fertilizers, and what organic practices to employ to help your plants grow, prosper and provide a healthy harvest.. Take home some organic plants from the farm, along with your newfound knowledge of how best to care for and cultivate them!
